Our children often have unprecedented access to the digital world.  There are many benefits from allowing access, but at the same time it's important to ensure children have the knowledge and skills to navigate appropriately in this environment.  The following websites provide exceptional information and activities to help children and their parents gain an understanding of the importance of being a good digital citizen.   
Web Wise Kids: Internet Safety Kit
A downloadable, printable package of activities that can be completed in class or sent home.

BeWebAware: Online Issues & Safety Tips
This site provides some background information regarding children this age and how they view the media, as well as provides a list of safety recommendations for online activities.

Common Sense Media
This free resource is designed to empower students to think critically and make informed choices about how they create, communicate, and treat others in our ever-evolving, 24/7 digital world. Topics include Safety & Security, Digital Citizenship and Research & Information Literacy.

Hector's World: Silicon Deep
Hector’s World® is a unique cybersafety initiative for teachers and parents to help young people learn about safe online practices  and digital citizenship. The core content of Hectors World  is the 7 animated episodes featuring Hector the dolphin, and his friends. Each episode has  support material for teachers and parents.

Clicky's Web World
Three interactive games (published by NetSmartzKids) that teach young children about what they can find on the web and how to handle dangers and act appropriately in the form of a fun 'web outlaws' game.
Zoe & Molly
This web site has a downloadable comic book for grades 3 & 4 students, as well as provides supplemental activities that teach children of this age appropriate and safe internet use. The instructions for the activities can be downloaded for use with or without computer lab access. 

Safety Land
An interactive game where children tour a variety of locations within Safety Land and answer questions about internet safety. This site is produced by U.S. internet service provider, AT&T. 

Meet the WizzyWigs
Two characters, Nettie & Webster lead division II children through a game to learn all about what they can do on the web, as well as introducing kids to the 'WizzyWigs' -- cartoon interpretations of a variety of internet dangers.

Privacy Pirates
This tutorial introduces children to the concept of online privacy and teaches them to distinguish between information that is appropriate to give out and information better kept private – and to recognize how this may change in different contexts.

Be Smart, Strong & Safe
The Be Smart, Strong and Safe initiative has been designed to be used with children at the Grades 5 and 6 levels. Here you will find a variety of tools and resources, including the Be Smart, Strong and Safe activity booklet. Through a number of fun and interesting activities, this booklet will help children learn how to identify inappropriate behavior and how to talk to a safe adult when something makes them feel uncomfortable.
